Ibáñez

If there’s such a thing as a dream job, this might be it: working with my pal Iván Castro to digitize the lettering from my favorite childhood comics—those by Francisco Ibáñez.

Iván was collaborating with Bruguera |Penguin Random House, designing letterings for the new Mortadelo albums, and when the opportunity arose to create a new typeface for the covers, he contacted me to handle the type part.

Mortadelo and Filemón, Pepe Gotera and Otilio, Sacarino the bellhop, the Boss, Ofelia, Professor Bacterio, Rompetechos, and who knows how many other characters still linger in the minds of Spanish children from the ’70s and ’80s—and now our letters will appear on the covers.
